Echo of a Promise

You stayed because of a promise 
Just a few simple words 
I promise I’ll be better 
I promise I’ll change  
I promise things will never be the same 

In a good way, you hoped 
But boy, were you wrong 
That promise was nothing but a siren song 

They say they will try 
They say theyll do better 
You tell yourself this is where it ends  

But when it happens again 
You let it slide 
Because what you tell yourself? 
That was the lie
