Hopelessly Romantic

His hazel eyes were held wide as he gazed into hers
He knew he couldn't own a moment but this moment was theirs
Whether she felt the same or not, it didn't matter
Because to him they were a hit and he was the batter
Or better yet the artist
Simply bringing his dreams into fruition on a canvas
With her in the frame, even grey skies find their coloring,
Though it's not only her beauty,
No, that's just skimming the surface,
You can see the intelligence in her eyes,
The curiosity, the longing for connection,
Worn so gracefully behind her mask,
As though every scar healed fast
And that smile, So genuine and caring,
Coupled with a laugh so free of reservation,
Has a way of making you forget your own insecurities,

A tender, unguarded free-verse love poem that lets admiration unfold in a natural stream of thought. The speaker’s romantic idealism feels sincere rather than possessive, especially in the recognition of her intelligence, resilience, curiosity, and warmth beyond physical beauty. The recurring visual imagery—hazel eyes, canvas, colour against grey skies, and the mask—gives the poem a gentle, dreamlike atmosphere, while the closing thought beautifully captures how genuine connection can quiet insecurity.
