A Mother's Wail

The moment you hear
that their no longer here.
An unexpected scream
wishing it were only a dream.

Your heart begins to break
as your body begins to shake
Trying hard to to be brave
the news is like a shockwave.

Nothing can replace this loss,
just like when Jesus died on the cross.
Looking back at all the times we've tried,
to get you help but you still died.

You were not meant for this world
but now my life has been hurled.
What comes next was never planned,
I had hopes for your life to be grand.

As we lay you to rest,
knowing you we felt blessed.
While your time was short with us,
we remember you were glorious.

Can't breathe, body shakes,
no matter what we all make mistakes.
My love for you was never ending,
my heart is in desperate need of mending.

How to deal with this overwhelming grief,
as I feel these demons were a thief.
My world has been completely shattered,
if only you knew how much you mattered.

A Mother's Wail is imprinted in my brain,
wishing no Mother had to experience that pain.
Feeling as though I've been stabbed with a knife,
I know I must move on with my life.

Remember those we love in our dreams,
hopeful that it silences our screams.
Life as we know isn't flawless,
all I hope is to find some solace.

This is a deeply heartfelt elegy that gives raw voice to a mother’s devastation after loss. The direct rhyming couplets and plain, unguarded language create a relentless pulse of shock, grief, love, and helplessness, while the recurring physical details—shaking, struggling to breathe, screaming—make the sorrow feel immediate and embodied. The poem’s closing wish for solace leaves a tender, human note of endurance amid unbearable pain. ❤️
