These Four Walls

When you’re stuck between these four walls
Time no longer matters
One day it runs another it crawls
To you it’s all the same since you’re stuck
between these four walls

When you only see these four walls
Shade of grayish white turned black in the dark
Your mind turns just as bleak and your will no longer stands tall

You end up talking to these four walls
Hoping that indeed they have ears
So that one may listen to your pleas
And let you wail when from your eyes
water falls

You’ve grown to know these four walls
So much so that you can tell where are their flaws
If today their cracks are deeper
Whether their bumps are now rougher

Your self your memory scarcely recalls

You despise these four walls
Bars upholding the bird’s golden cage
In it its song is faint and gradually fades away
You wish to escape these four walls
“But freedom where ?” you say
“Surely not in the land where blood flows in rivers,
Where dust is made of the dead’s bones
Neither the soil where the obscure onyx
Is discarded for the pale pearl, no”

So you stay within these four walls
Hoping that life no longer stalls
Counting the days until your misery ends
By heaven’s will or by your own hands

For now you live with these four walls

A haunting, tightly enclosed poem whose repeated refrain becomes the architecture of confinement itself. The shifting images—from grey-white walls to a bird’s golden cage—give the speaker’s isolation both physical weight and emotional depth, while the rhyme and recurring “four walls” create the relentless sense of days circling back upon themselves.
