My Daughters Just Like Me

i knew you loved her
i could see it in your eyes
your wife sometimes called her fleur
sleeping where she often lies

i saw the way you touched her hair
and you laughed when she learn't to walk
you hoped that she would'nt have a care
and how delighted you were when she began to talk

and when she would stay with you
i'd have no worries not at all
i knew that love,thats oh!so true
not a man i know could walk so tall

boy if she could see you now
she would still feel the same
to feel such a heady love and how
it all seems such a shame

but i still have my memory
it will be totally honest and true
and caring as bygone hereditary
i'll be upfront and ernest about you

you were the grandad she never had
and she loves you still
but you were special your my dad
and i love you and always will.
