Sat on the Stairs

I watch the sheer steps
Spiralling down to dreams
The rest towering above-
Just out of reach
But here the carpet is soft
Soft as a memory and I can see
Stars flicker between the banisters
Glimmering explosions punctured
By dropping eyelids
Aching limbs are left to rest
Comforted in how far they’ve come
And how far they’ve still
Got left to climb

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Welcome to Poetry Soup. I welcome you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.

Lovely first offering to this site, Nancy. ThkU for sharing & welcome here. I enjoyed how you depicted the up and down movement. Lots of optimism in poem, appropriate for the new year. Glimmering explosion is effective as well as how you’ve used “comforting”. Best intentions for the new year to you., Ghairo

I see the staircase, most of it mapped out in attractive imagery, as an invitation to persistence, the resolve to keep going. I like how the resting spot expands into the appreciation of what it took to arrive there thus far from below, the still "spiralling into dreams", staircase. Perhaps the dreams are still ethereal until the arrival of the "Just out of reach" portion above for fulfillment. I enjoyed reading.
