Broken Like the Glass

Once upon a piece of glass
Glimmer of light
True Identity crumbling
Poison eating her alive
Ravishing that which she was
Into the void she is now

Never eating, rags loose on diminished proportion
Breathing deep the toxin, lips meet glass
Deadly mist like venom, suffering her own bite

Watch as her life ignites, eyes bright
Subdued, faulter, tremble, eyes constant to the glass
Addiction cultivated over many a night
For so long , she tries to deny, meth total control
Her body, her mind, her soul

Minutes, hours, days, one in the same
Tattered, everything loved, torn
Her once bright flicker of life
Burning low, Burning dim, no glimmer, no glow

Her eagerness to shine replaced
Toxic vision has its way
Scared, alone, years pass by
Love, warmth, caring no more
Reach grasp anything real
Just as the glass, Just as she
Empty------Stained-------Broken

Remembering time warmed before
Attention, loved, owning a heart
Driven away, cruelty, intentional pain
A cost more precious than life
Lost, out of control, still breathing the cloud
The cloud called meth

Now just as the glass, just as the glass
Empty-----Stained-----Broken

Moving, powerful, and an apt capture of the destruction of addiction. Love it. Tony
