time to say goodbye

How do you say goodbye to the only person in this world who has been through hell and back with you. When they don’t even see it coming from you but deep down inside your heart you know it’s time to let go of them.
You keep telling yourself that it’s for the best because you don’t have much time left in this world. There’s nothing more anyone can do. Nothing is going to change the sickness. So, saying goodbye is for the best.
While trying not to leave them damaged and praying for their pain to heal as they move on with their life without you in it. Hoping all the walls they had put up to protect themselves from the hurt in this world that they don’t put them up and give someone a chance to love them the way you did.
Knowing you don’t have a choice but to say goodbye. While you still have time and can hold on to the memories and all the dreams that you shared with them. Praying for just one more day and hoping they don’t see the tears rolling down your face and the pain of breaking two hearts.
