The Days of The Big Mouthed Frog
Take me back to the days where depression and anxiety weren't in my vocabulary,
To where I thought everything ended happily,
When I was naive enough to believe things lasted forever,
And the pain of the future didn't threaten the fragile happiness I pulled together,
To stories of the "big mouth frog" my papaw told,
To when I never understood the concept of growing old,
When diseases and age weren't a fear,
And I believed we wouldn't ever think about being apart and everyone would stay here,
But now that I'm older that illusion is shattered,
My heart is broken,torn and battered,
I'll never be able to have the past,
My sadness grows when I remember that I didn't want it when I thought it would last,
I wanted to be an adult and make my own choices,
Never realized I might miss the silly voices,
The ones I heard before bed or sitting at his feet ,
And it makes me wonder - if that can slip away what do I truly have for keeps?
