Those We Love

Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day;
Whether close or far, lead the way,
So, what if it’s a weekend or a weekday?
Until we stand at crossroads;
Until we stand in contemplation.
Do we both go north?
Do we part? There’s so much temptation,
But sometimes it's better to just let go;
To live, to know, to understand our souls.
Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Is that reality? Is reality a saint?
Or is it a metaphor, a dream, a saying?
Sometimes it really is just about
Sailing into the notion of hanging on.
Hang on, who are those we love aloud?
Those we love, do they hang on?
Because those who love you don’t go away,
But will they walk beside you?
Will they walk every day?
Or will they run, maybe slow down?
Or will they hunt, maybe regret sticking around?
Those we love, will they go away?
In some life, somehow, some day?
In some life? Somehow? Some day?
I get down on my knees
A thing? I can’t feel
I put my head down on the ground and say
“Lord… some life, somehow, some day,
but today, for them I fear and for them I pray.
Lord, some other life, not possibly how, not any upcoming day,
from me, Lord, don’t take them away…”
