Fooled Twice
He rode in with the sunset, spurs jinglin’ low,
A smile like the desert, where nothin’ can grow.
She’d heard his sweet talk once, thought she was wise,
But a cowboy’s charm is a devil in disguise.
He fooled her once with a wink and a grin,
Promised her love like the wide-open wind.
She swore she’d never fall again for his lies,
But the second time ’round, he caught her by surprise.
This time he spoke softer, said vows under skies,
Slipped a ring on her finger, put stars in her eyes.
She gave him her trust, her heart, and her hand,
Believed she was safe with her cowboy then.
A baby soon cried in the still of the night,
She rocked that child by the lantern light.
She thought it was love, thought it was true—
But dang, she was wrong… he fooled her times two.
Now the prairie wind whispers of lessons hard-earned,
Of bridges once trusted that’ll never return.
For a cowgirl’s heart, though broken and scarred,
Rides stronger alone than with love that’s charred.
