Ghost with a Pad

They say heartbreak fades.
But no one talks
about losing your best friend
in the process.

The person who knew your middle-of-the-night thoughts,
who could hear your silence and still answer it.
Gone.
Not buried,
not dead,
just not yours anymore.

You scroll past their name
and still feel your hand twitch.
Like some part of you didn’t get the memo
that everything changed.

And it’s not the cuddles you miss,
it’s the way they made you feel
safe in the storm.
It’s not the I love you,
it’s the Did you eat today?
The Get home safe.
The You’re not alone.

Now it’s just quiet.
You tell stories out loud
and forget they’re not there to finish them.

You still hear the laugh
that used to crack you open,
and the way they knew
exactly when to leave you the hell alone,
and exactly when not to.

It’s a heartbreak, sure.
But deeper than that,
it’s a friendship gone missing.
A daily presence
that turned into
a ghost with a pulse.

And the worst part?
They’re still out there.
Living.
Laughing.
Being someone else’s comfort now.

And you,
you’re here,
quietly missing the person
you used to tell everything to...
including how much this would hurt
