Because of All That Wasn’t There

Even now,
the lake
still feels empty of water—
though it’s a lake.
Even now, it’s the sea’s water
that the eyes drift toward.
Even now, they compare it
to mountain water.
Even now, there’s longing
for the water of a home.
Still, it feels like there’s strength left.
Still, it feels like something is missing.
Still, there’s no confidence.
Even now, it keeps trying
to become an ocean.
Though there is so much water,
the lake itself—
even now—
still feels
like something never seen.
