Independence vs in-dependence

Independence vs In-Dependency

They came with promises wrapped in lies,
With deceit veiled in hope and disguise.
Their flags stabbed the soil—our soil, my soil—
Turning sacred lands into fields of toil,
Whose fruits we'd never taste.

You set foot in my village, my home,
Did you feel the soil, once rich, now scarred?
Did the earth groan as you took its gold?
And drained the rivers of their precious stone?
Did you see the land that gave life wither,
As its veins bled for your hunger, your selfish gain?

You spoke of change,
Promising progress in exchange for our pride.
With words dripping honey but reeking venom,
You preached development,
You called it order—this iron hand.
This "better world" built on stolen land.

They carved borders with careless hands,
All in a bid to change Africa's fate.
How dare you?
Split families, deny our gods, erase our names, and disturb our peace.
How dare you?
Impose languages, cultures, and beliefs we never knew.
Do you not hear my rivers cry, bleeding with the loss of life?

Did my ancestors not fight,
Did they not bleed, did they not die,
To reclaim the land, to restore our pride?
But still, my soil cries,
With chains, no one sees, but all feel.
The fight for freedom is far from real.
Are we independent if we are "IN-DEPENDENCY?
