Black Coffee Memories

As we wait for the day
To start over anew
We watch the sunrise
Dry the morning dew.
You have a paper,
And I have a bowl
This drink has stained everything,
Even seeped to our souls.
When we were younger
We would dance until dawn.
Now the thought only
Makes both of us yawn.
Though we have been tested,
By my side there was you.
Still, life holds no more cream
For me or for you.
Yet with sugar in our hearts,
We sit here together
Gazing up towards the stars
As we will be forever.
Though the sun has passed us
Over 18, 262 times,
My heart still yearns
For your hand in mine.
Our kids are now grown.
We have beaten the rush,
And still for you
I will always crush.
Rocking back and forth
Looking over our fruit trees,
We sit here on our porch swing
Making black coffee memories.

DAMN! That's something, the way you capture the memory vividly and the subtle soothing rhyme, just wow. Great piece.
