The Eucharistic Flame

The Eucharistic Flame

A Metaphysical Poem

O Sacred Fire, O Bread of Light,
Thy essence veiled, yet burning bright.
Within this chalice, gold and pure,
A cosmic truth the meek endure.

I take Thee in, O Host divine,
And feel Thee pulse through blood and spine.
My bones dissolve, my breath is stilled,
My soul with holy wine is filled.

The altar glows, the heavens bend,
The veil is torn, the rites transcend.
No longer flesh, no longer dust,
I rise beyond the chains of must.

Was this mere bread, a mortal grain,
Or dust transfigured, lost to pain?
It speaks in tongues of hallowed grace,
A voice beyond all time and space.

My soul is caught in sacred trance,
A waltz within the great expanse.
The galaxies like embers glow,
Yet here in flesh, my God I know.

The priest’s hand lifts, the chalice tips,
Eternity now wets my lips.
I am no more, and yet I rise,
A living spark in Love’s own eyes.

So tell me, world, what dost thou see?
A man, a fool, or mystery?
For in this bread, in trembling breath,
I feast on life and conquer death.
