Just for Fun

It all began as if it were a game,
he teased her daily, then she did the same.
More and more hurtful the jokes became,
to see who could inflict the most searing pain.

Neither realized how much damage they could do
until the day the children did it too.
At first the mother was taken aback
when she understood how much harm she had racked.

As best she could, she was determined to stop
participating in the cycle of humiliating their Pop.
Self-control she needed to learn
to reverse the destruction and this evil spurn.

She began by closing her lips so tight
whenever he started to pick a fight.
Her mate was baffled and continued to pursue
his demeaning way of causing ridicule.

The pent up heartache she began to feel
as he continued to make her reel.
But she was determined to reverse this trend
to cultivate love and her family mend.

As the years went on, she thought all was in vain
but then he awoke and saw his disdain.
His friends tried to show him that he was not admired
for making fun of her ----- he was not desired.

He thought his jives were just for fun,
He didn't mean to hurt anyone.
As he matured, he changed his lines
and became a good comic in due time.

It is an easy trap to fall into and causes the damage just as you described. And we are all so much happier when we say kind things of one another instead! Nice write!

WELL caught and scribed, Susan! Europeans are always surprised (and embarrassed) at how Americans disparage their spouse "in fun". Aloha! Rico

It is never fun when people begin hurting each other. Good write with descriptiveness and rhyming.
