Number Twenty Five

Number Twenty-Five

I was the newcomer to the group
A bored and hungry chauffeur
There on a cold day for hot soup,
Sandwich and the attitude de jour

The afternoons spent there are now
Among my favorite memories today
Because of the warm people and how
They encouraged and showed me the way

The Matriarch of number twenty-five
Was the petite, genteel Miss Shirley
A lady from Scotland, so very alive
But to see her, I’d have to be early

Then all the way from France
Was Jan: both sister and mother
My advisor as I’d give her the chance
A sweet lady much unlike any other

Paul and his wife were so cool
So encouraging, an inspiration
Their words would be a tool
Their marriage, my aspiration

There was Pam, the older sister
Who was so easy to talk to
Though I frequently missed her
I was always there on cue

Jeff, Stan and that one dude
Always kept conversation alive
Good company, good food
At Waffle House twenty-five

Nicely written quatrain, Steve! It's all the more interesting because it is based on your unique experience. Hugs, Donna
