The Mile I've walked

Many a shoe has walked on my
Soul, raised me up to a stand
where once I crawled

Some I could slip right on
No struggle, no fight, always
found in the middle of late night

Rain was tested on many with
a dance, mud on rubber didn't
Stand a chance

I climbed up hills that felt like
Mountains, slipped on rocks
smoothed from waterfall

There were paths that had two
roads to take, I sometimes chose
the one my shoes couldn't make
Next trip I remembered that

I had shoes that lifted me up
and those I thought I could
walk across fire

Some got me to the front row
In church, others I only found
One, no matter how hard I had

There were the ones I could walk in for
Miles, and those that pinched hard,
Leaving no room for even fake smiles

I guess the old saying rings true,
You don't know another's story
unless you've talked
to their shoes
