For My First Love

For my first love, I wasn’t supposed to fall
But she fell fast and I fell hard

Before her I loved
Without knowing what loving someone could really mean
I loved, but never as hard as I loved my own autonomy

My first love put her pen to paper
Her words of love only made me want to escape her

But her sweet heart turned my scars into art,
The ones I had mended with gold
Despite being scared, how could I help
But to leave a crack in the door?

For my first love, I wasn’t supposed to fall
But she fell fast and I fell hard

For my first love, I wasn’t supposed to fall
And for the first time,
I didn’t care if love would leave me with scars

For my first love, I wasn’t supposed to fall
But I fell so hard I sometimes wonder,
If she even fell at all
