Words

I heard them when I was small
words of hatred words worst of all
words of steel knives stabbing me
meaningless words all for me
it didn't matter what they said
the words wanted me dead.

And now Im old it's just the same
words are pain
words are pain,
again and again and again
and again
words tell me nothing of you
words that tell us what to do
words of war and words that bore
words that go shopping, make cars and houses
words that tell you what they want
you to be to buy to satisfy
them words are the evil
these words suck me dry
words are the needles in my eyes.

I saw words in the skies
flying around like ashes from funeral pyres
words of gain words of shame
the same words over and over and over
Again and again and again
the trick is running still
the ears are listenning to the words of will
the will of others in the words
the words of others is your will
words you see and words you feel
words you read and words you hear and feel.

What did they teach you at school
words about words with words
which words to believe
which words to feel
which words to ignore and words to thank
the words the words wanted to be words for you and me
and now
the lies
made of words we believe
we are safe, words
we are happy, words
we are good, words
we are right, words
we are black aqnd white, words

and soon we'll be dead words
and gone to heaven words
god words of love
and stone words our name
telling all our words were in vain.
