The Corporate State

The Corporate State
The billionaires now compete.
    Your vote is worthless now,
          the CEOs debate.
To you and I, they do not relate.

In the dusk of freedom,
I resist a response of hate.
          We must draw together,
                in a show of unity.

Corpse Flower seed sent from NYC,
    Soon to bloom in DC.
          Its scent is all-pervasive,
Your opinion does no longer rate.

Your Congress persons are commodities now,
they are freely bought and sold,
the common man is left out in the cold,
kiss the Bill of Rights goodbye.

Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Shou Zi Chew will run the show,
one man alone however hard he might strive,
can but try to fight the system,
not tug his forelock and bow.

Consider deep the bright leadership,
    that democracy gave us all,
          in twenty and sixteen,
Then please tell me what we have to choose between.

In its complexity and organization lies great beauty
like a flower with many frills,
it has a very, deep state, blossom,
spreading its wondrous scent to all.

I now perceive the evening of the year,
    not without a little fear.
In truth, my fate is of little matter,
              but the Nation’s course,
I wish I could view it without remorse.
