Fishbones

She has a good future ahead of her
The roses that grow from her vertebra look to the sun
Intertwined around the marble she calls a mind
The other day she called me crazy
For we share the same dreams
“You got fishbones for brains, kid!
You make nothing but crow calls, what I make is art!”
And her eyes, nestled in soft petals, held spirals
But my sockets held stars
I leapt from my seat and I looked to the sun
I said “Watch me! Just watch me!”
My spine did rattle and those old bones creaked
I made crow calls and chicken scratch, anything I could
And I wrote ‘Me, Myself, and I’ on every blank sheet
No rose, no daisy, nobody but me
Will ever say I didn’t create
