The Fall

The game a start
Crowd was cheering
Out on the field
First down was nearing

Thought he was fast
Could rush past you
You wrapped him up
The last thing you knew

You stood up,
Lights went out
to the Ground you fell
No beat of your heart
could they find
A parents living hell

For all of my living years
Never such silence I’ve heard
Everyone who saw
Quietly waiting on word

For you my dear Hamlin,
The nation gathered around
To feel close to you
thoughts and prayers abound

For that fatal moment
You may never recall
A nightmare for us
As we saw it all

I am a nurse,
death not new to me
What a site to behold
was watching your team
Not only yours
but your rival you see
They all gathered around
An unspoken unity

For you #3,
we all had to worry
All praying for good news
Would come in a hurry

For I too
was a player
amongst teams
Much like you,
blessed with my dream

Not many
will ever know
That special bond
And how it grows

To die by the hands
of what we love
No greater gift
bestowed from above

Don’t misunderstand
what I’m trying to say
He already knew the 2nd
wasn’t your day

Just like the stars
perfectly aligned
For you a miracle,
we all tried to find

A team really mourning
And the whole nation too
No fussing no fighting
The Updates were few

A nation United
that’s something new
Damar Hamlin
it was all for you
