Coming Home
for Han
I never noticed I never
called. I should call now
& keep calling from this
place beyond love, beyond
space, where all things
are constantly renewing
themselves. It is a difficult
thing to be born. I never
noticed before I heard her
call with a voice two
thousand miles away. Her
voice from a place beyond
trust, beyond time, where
all things are forgiven
for trying their best, and
failing. It is difficult to tell
a person you miss them
when you don’t know how
to get back. It is far too easy
to believe there are reasons
not to call, & keep calling—
Our lives are parallel lines
that will meet in the infinite.
But the infinite is here,
right now. Outside my window
the stars are raising their little white
flags above their little white
heads. Inside I am writing you
this poem. Can you hear me?
