A Talking Bird Visited Me One Day

A mourning dove appeared one day on my window sill
He looked in, aghast, as he saw me taking a vitamin pill
I stopped midway and looked back at him as he cooed in protest
“You can leave right now” I said, “you dirty bird you’re not an invited guest.”

He cocked his head and stared some more looking panicked and frayed
“It is a pill” I urged “it’s none of your affair, please fly your self away!”
He waddled and turned his tail toward me and looked over his slight shoulder
“It’s a pill to you but to me it looks quite more like a boulder!”

“Wait”, I said, “you can talk? This is unusual for a bird!”
“No it’s not” he said to me and I know what I heard
He turned to me again to opine my healthy pill
“It’s not a thing you should do, as you have God’s free will!”

So strange my dream was that night I dare not take more pills.
For I do not wish to speak to birds upon my window sills.
