In Once Green Fields

In once green fields the larks no longer sing,
Nor rise the owls to meet the waxing moon,
For here amongst the mud no living thing,
Is left to tell the horror men have known.

A place now scarred and blighted for all time,
Stands haunted by what never should have been,
This testament to human, bloody crime
Stands silent witness to a world of sin

No life,
No love,
No beauty left,
No balm against the hurt.
In once green fields now dark and dead,
Where men have done their worst.
