Checkmate

the list is a thing that broke my heart
it tore me and my friends apart
ranking us was so demeaning
you didn’t even have a reason
you didn’t even think about it
the classroom i just walked right out of it
here i was giving you a second chance
now we’re locked in a death dance
the tangos not one that i like
so listen to the words i write:
i would never say it to your face
but this is just a big disgrace
your such a good person then
you watch them make a list again
so i’ll say it once and i’ll say it loud
you sit there crying i sit here proud
proud it didn’t get to my head
or else i might as well be dead
cross me once that’s okay
make a list i feel betrayed
lied to me about my place
i want to slap your satisfied face
people want me to forgive and forget
but i don’t want to do that yet
forgiving means you get to win
and this goes on and on again
you think that you can relate
so read my lips,
checkmate.
