Dandelion Dreams

Where dandelions bloom
is where my childhood began
Amongst them I would lie
in fields of velvet green
unfolded like a blanket
upon the humble earth

I’d gaze into a glistening sky
and weave dandelion dreams
upon my head
in shy silence
that stretched across time

And then I’d walk
with earthen feet
clay-kissed
to the wooded edge
where I’d sit
on the laps of leaves
and behold God
in nature’s simplicity

Now the years approach me
more fleetly than my heart
shocking my essence
shaking my simplicity
There are now steel places and cold faces
promising me man-made majesty
and leading me into rooms of nothingness

How I long
to retrace my footsteps
to those velvet fields
to that wooded edge
to God in nature’s simplicity

But I fear
my eyes will be blinded
by visions of the dandelions wilting
upon time’s forgetful fields
and I will exist wordlessly in their stillness
a statue of concrete and grace
a faithful keeper and watcher
of dandelion days
lived in the warmth
of a sheltering sun

Tara, Beautiful words and memories ...Love the imagery and the journey through time. I’d gaze into a glistening sky and weave dandelion dreams upon my head in shy silence that stretched across time All the best, Susan :)
