Memories
I leaned my head against the window, as I heard the soft humming of the car engine.
Watching street lights instead of stars.
My sister sat quietly across from me, fiddling with her thumbs.
My dad had fallen asleep hours ago.
Though it was cold in the car, the July heat still hadn’t let up.
A sudden pop let off into the night sky.
We watched as a colorful display lit up the starless sky.
Fireworks.
I turned back to my sister, who was no longer playing with her thumbs.
She smiled at the sky.
The sky that was once dull and dark.
Maybe this wouldn’t be as bad as I thought.
