Broken Panes

The shattered panes of this brain
jagged lines and deep deep lanes
do you see the road signs? what's the way
Is it down this road? pray pray
The filters change in snapshots and shudders
Blonde highlights and soft brown color
her hearts still soft and pink in deep
It's just the outside that no longer speaks
her words are pictures to share and show
Songs and poems, tired from long long before
In a story she doesn't understand
a tall tall tower in the middle of the fields it stands
It keeps her spirit sheltered in
Where she's walked and all she's been
"But what is that?" she asks the falling stars
that glow so bright in the long dark sky
Rose petals fall in hopeless pain, glitter
Under glass the book collects dust
Where does beauty go, once it's begun to rust.
Her voice is quiet still in thick air
I don't know this story, but maybe it's still gold there
