Calm and Ready

For the few short moments when I let my mind rest.
I ponder eternity and purpose and, my favorite, nothingness.
It’s strange to witness the natural human drive.
Always shifting and moving as a means to feel alive.
But even stranger I feel is the slow decay of our true nature.
Longing to love and explore, to open new studies for nomenclature.
Never forget how the young look to us for the keys.
Show them the beauty of life and too the unease.
Why do we now shudder from darkness and pain?
The other half of the coin should not be taken in vain.
These feelings can be harnessed, when explored and understood.
They can reinforce and strengthen you, like an old ironwood.
It’s funny to think, how the way forward is sometimes back.
But how else would we find where it is that we lack?
This hole in yourself, when it is finally found.
Will feel deeply uncomfortable and tempt you to turnaround.
The paradox of this encounter is where you make your choice.
To run away and stay in pain, or boldly claim your voice.
