A Mothers Sacrifice

She spends the morning on her bathroom floor
Her body purging all she had eaten before
She wipes the tears from her eyes, and cradles her belly
And still goes to make her man some toast with jelly
Her days are plagued with discomfort and pain
Her nights offer no relief, only the same
Her body is changing and will forever be scarred
But the love for her baby overpowers what’s marred

She goes into labor, but accepts no medication
The pain becomes agony, but she bravely retains her decision
And with one final push, her daughter breathes air
She holds her in her arms, with an aura so fair
The bond she now has can never be broken
Her heart overflows and her scars are now tokens
Of the trials she’s been through and the future she faces
Her life and focus on her daughter she now places

But life isn’t easier and sleep is no better
Her daughters run rampant and are now bed-wetters
She cooks she cleans but feels she can’t keep up
With the messes and schedules while kids run amok
She’s under-appreciated and taken for granted
Her daughters are teens now and she starts to feel hated
And yet she never stops caring, she still gives her all
She will always be there to pick them up when they fall

But I want you to know, that throughout all these years
I’ve seen your undying sacrifice, your blood, sweat and tears
You’ve been more of a mother than I could ever hope to be
And I couldn’t possibly express how much you mean to me
So wherever life takes me, whatever the future holds
I hope you’ll keep this poem until you’re very old
Because I want to be sure that it will forever be known
How much I love you and the special bond that we’ve grown
