Post Pandemic Doug

I never thought of Doug
as particularly intelligent
or interesting
And as he stood next to the fireplace
With a cigar in one hand
And a scotch in the other
He fumbled for words
Making feeble attempts to impress
But we knew better
the family and I
We knew of his past
His inability to keep
Both gainful employment
And wives
He seemed quite pitiful
when one by one everyone left
The room
Each using their own excuse
Some the restroom
The other a quite boring game of football
On the television
But anything was better than seeing Doug
And the massive success he had
In making himself a complete bore
It almost made me long for the isolation
Of the pandemic.
