The Caged God

The Lion sits in his cage
We go to visit him from time to time
And wonder at his majesty and might

A swipe of his paw
Could kill us
Rend us in two

And when he comes near the glass
We speak to him
Like we are feeding our cat

Nature seems intent on killing us
We seem intent on caging death
And giving it a cute name

God lives in the church
We go to visit him from time to time
And wonder at his majesty and might

A swipe of his paw
Could kill us
Rend us in two

And when we come to the altar
We speak to him
Like we are talking to our senile grandfather

God seems intent on killing us
We seem intent on caging God
And we will pay in the end….
