Stars In The Mouth of Darkness

STARS IN THE MOUTH OF DARKNESS

From a faceless void, a nation struggles,
Its weary hands grasping at crumbling walls.
The stars within our hollow minds,
Whisper of hope, even as hunger unwinds.4

Nigeria breathes through teeth of stone,
A mouth that swallows dreams all alone.
Children stretch their arms so frail,
Reaching for light that seems to pale.8

Oil seeps like blood beneath the sand,
Fortunes lost to a greedy hand.
Mothers tread on dusty roads,
Carrying burdens, fulfilling their codes.¹²

Fathers labour with rusted tools,
Crafting futures in broken schools.
Youth ignite with a fiery spark,
Yet jobless nights leave on them its mark.¹6

Corruption grins with gnashing teeth,
Long after freedom, progress buried far beneath.
Still, voices rise in songs of defiance,
Chants of struggle, prayers for guidance.²°

Lagos Island traffic feels like a daily war,
Abuja’s Aso Rock promises fade evermore.
Villages long for electricity, barred from light,
Cities choke in fumes, what a grimy sight.²4

Yet the stars remain, defiant and bright,
Carving hope into the endless night.
Nigeria crawls, but won’t forever fall,
Its hands still reaching, giving their all.²8

In the mouth of despair, hope finds a way,
A cosmic struggle, life’s grand ballet.³°
