Closer To Earth

My fingers gently break through the sand,
Grasping as it runs through my hands.
I wipe the sweat from my lips,
Dripping and humid.
My body sighing and creaking,
Droplets run down my wrinkled skin.
My mortality is coming to an end.
I’ve spent many days upon this beach,
But now the sun is smiling at me
And the wind is hugging me closer.
The water lapping to my feet,
Anticipating my end
And to return to them.
