Hyena

Sneaky snivelling dog,
Creeping around for gain,
Snatching whatever comes close,
No understanding of pain.

The pain that other things suffer,
The agony of dying for real,
I hope you never do realise,
Or empathise, notice, or feel.

But never forget the family,
The pull to provide for the young,
It changes every perspective,
The hyenas howl must be sung.

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.

Hello,Beth. I like the way that you changed the mood of the poem by mentioning the survival/motherly instinct in the final verse. I thought that you might have written it for the contest but notice that you have not entered it as 'personification' poetry.
