Loss

Speckled sunlight tickles my nose
The world around us tumbles, then slows
The letter in your hand, sharp corners and smooth
A distant reminder of our youth
Your eyes are far, looking deep into the future
Yet another tear in my heart I will have to suture
Morning frost covers prickly grass,
Creating a textured blanket while I count grains of sand pass through the hourglass
We may have lost her to vicious cells
To change that day is my yearning desire
Love drifts apart as a part of it passes
Documents for spreading of ashes
People come and go, battered souls continue to heal
Emotions running loose, the mix of loss and ache is surreal
This white envelope will now determine my fate
It tells me how you feel
