The Keys

And what am I to do?
Can't get my mind off of you...
We're two halves of a whole
but you withhold your soul from me
and love me less than you desire control.

It's such a restless feeling,
turning 'round and 'round with you...
We're like two duelers facing off
until one says "I've had enough,"
and either drops their foil or says "Adieu".

He wants to touch my body;
I want to touch his heart.
His price is gold and silver.
He's had me from the start.
And how can I get close to him,
to the part he guards from me?
(And do I really want to know it
if sex and money are the keys?)

And what more can I say?
Am I a fool to feel this way?
I don't believe he's shallow
but he conceals the man inside:
His pride and fears my love will not allow.

Can I make you understand me?
I want a friendship with your soul.
That is what I'm longing for---
what I desire so much more
than all the goods and pleasures of this world.

"For richer or for poorer."
"In sickness and in health."
How can you say you love me
when your heart is with yourself?
And how can I get close to you,
to the part you guard from me?
(And do I really want to know it
if sex and money are the keys?)

How can I get close to you,
to the depths of who you are?
You want to love my body;
I want to love your heart.
