Memory's Melody

Memory's Melody

It sometimes seems
As though time streams
Through my mind
In a parade of dreams
Both cruel and kind

I close my eyes
And this time flies
As if on wings
People places...things
My memory's music sings

I can clearly see
Names and faces
And things that used to be
In my memory's melody
Of forgotten places

From bygone times
The rhythm and rhymes
Of my mind's eye..
Fill life's spaces
Streaming by

Alas but a mystery...
Or a meaning meant to be
A signal...a sign for one to see
A reminder from the past
A life's lesson meant to last

But who would know
The secret science
Of this ebb and flow
And how could one prove
Time's secret
As it's on the move...

For at once it's here
But then it's gone
We face the future
And move on
But again it moves into the past
Not a second seems to last

The only thing we know
Like sand it's constant flow
To some inevitable end
Time's constant move
Without pretend

So we toil at our task
The many questions not to ask
That we will not regret our past
After all it may just be
It's but the memory
That's meant to last
