February 14th

My feet drag through wet piles of the last leaves,
it's Valentine's Day-but it feels like fall to me.
At early hours of the morning, I can hear them driving off to their jobs
and those commitments that keep them going day to day
until they land in the arms of the one they love.

And all of this feels so right when I wish that it was wrong,
I know you're sitting at home thinking of how you feel alone.
But times, they change, when no one wants to say goodbye.
Walking downtown with the chill of the winter's breeze,
I remember it was raining and you meant everything to me.

Now my face will soon be drifting away from your memory,
pushed far back behind your eyes in a special place called
"first love."

I'm singing my fears off into the distance,
they're so faded, sometimes I forget that they're there.
And if you look into my eyes, they're set on something to the future,
But behind these hard eyes of mine, there's this special place called
"first love."
