Today

There's no promise of tomorrow, no taking back today,
Each second that's left behind is one that slipped away.
Every chance that's given presents another choice to make,
You may regret what's passed but won't forget the price you paid.

What is today is my day in the sun?
The day that begins all I'll ever become.
What if I stay in bed and catch up on my sleep?
But give up a chance with the girl of my dreams.
What if I pass the ball and pass up on the shot?
And admit that a hero is something I'm not.
What if I run from the challenge I can fight with my fists?
And walk away from the stories to tell my grandkids.
So I'll chalk up the losses but hold onto the wins,
Because today is the day that tomorrow begins.

I pray I'll never lose my ambition to explore,
To on a dime, drop everything, pack my bags and hit the door.
I wish to see the world and live life now or never,
Because If I don't do it today I may put it off forever.
