Ice Skating

Ice Skating!

Catching the early train this morning
Excitement running through my veins
Ice hockey boots over my shoulder
Running through the back streets of town
Rain pouring, hair soaking
Ice cold sleet, rain, like needles in my face.

Queuing for entry
Eager to get in
Tickets in one hand
Backpack in the other
The ice is hard just waiting for us
Glistening under spot lights

Teenage love
Always special
A time to remember
A time of fun
A time of growing
A time of love and pain
A time of making memories

Feet making figures of eight on the ice
Faster and faster
Hair whipping around my face
Speed skating, ice flying
Laughter and joy showing in my face

No thought of falling
As figures fly across the ice
A picture to hold onto for future
the memories in my head.

Prayer of a Servant

Prayer of a servant.

The amazing beauty You created always astounds me!
I just want to shout from the heavens,
You have created this!
This is Your canvas on which You paint!
Like an artists hand,
You give and take away.
You build majestic mountains,
You give rivers of life that flow!
In the depths of the oceans, microbes glow.
Phytoplankton flow on the currents,
Molecules fly on the jetstreems
The sun rises on the horizon
And the moon greets the earth in the evening.
Jesus You are the master painter.
The creator of this beautiful earth.
Every gift You give, is a gift of life.
May I Your servant be Your vessel of light!
Amen.

Jesus I love You.
I am Your canvas Lord.
Paint me!
I am Your servant Lord.
Make me Yours to do Your will!

Isaiah 64:8
Yet you, LORD, are our Father.
  We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.

Lion of Judah

THE LION OF JUDAH

Lightning bursts from the sky
Electricity sizzles
The smell of cordite fills the air.
A spatter of rain forms large drops on the dusty ground.
Black clouds form a backdrop to the Thornveld
as the sun kisses the horizon goodnight.
The sound of a lion roars before the storm.
An answering lioness grunts her reply
In the distance a hyena laughs
As darkness falls
The sky flares as lightning chases a cloud
The earth gives up its fragrance of rain
As it permeates the air
The lioness nostrils flair catching a scent.
A gazelle hides from the coming storm
Unaware of its impending death
A sudden rush, a high-pitched scream
And dinner in the grassland is served
Cubs play with their meal as mother watches
They have a lot to learn
The harsh life of the Thornveld gives no mercy
God its creator watches
The Lion of Judah an ever strong presence
His creation, nature at its best.

REVELATION 5
The Scroll and the Lamb
1Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
6Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spiritsa of God sent out into all the earth. 7He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reignb on the earth.”
11Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12In a loud voice they were saying:
“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”
13Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!”
14The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Anticipation

Anticipation

This morning the sky was bright red
Before turning to a dirty milk
The air is still
The heat is intense and dry
You can hear the leaves crackle underfoot

You can feel the energy in the air increasing
Like a coiled spring
You wait for the impending storm
Excitement growing with every hour

The smell of fire drifts on a breeze
Veld is burning
Animals running trying to escape
The smell of rain is still far away
Anticipation

Revelation 1 v 7 & 8
7 “Look, he is coming with the clouds,”
and “every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him”;
and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.”
So shall it be! Amen.
8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

The Cross

THE CROSS

I fold my arms and close my eyes,
I picture a cross so tall.
Mary His Mother
And Mary His disciple
Crying below, at His feet.

Blood running down the wood.
Finally resting on the ground
Soaked up by the desert soil.

Mary His Mother, crying for her Son
Mary Magdalene, crying for her Lord.
Why have they done this, my heart breaks
Roman soldiers so cruel.

One with a spear as he says
“no don’t break His legs,
spear Him instead”.

My soul crys out
“Lord have mercy lest I fall”
“Take me like the thief, to your banqueting hall!”
Jesus I give you my all,
My soul, my heart, my body.

Luke 23:32-43, (NAS95) 32 Two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him. 33 When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. 34 But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing." And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves. 35 And the people stood by, looking on. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One." 36 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming up to Him, offering Him sour wine, 37 and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!" 38 Now there was also an inscription above Him, "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS." 39 One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, "Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!" 40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 "And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." 42 And he was saying, "Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!" 43 And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise."

Under the African Sun

Under the African sun

When loneliness bite’s and red wine doesn’t help
And mowing the lawn makes you feel a little green,
Red faced and hot!
Winter it is not !
A tree with a shower
Cold water gives you power.
The wind has dropped the beetles are humming
Cumulous clouds are forming
A storm is coming !
Finish the potting rake over the soil
Plant the seeds of all your hard toil
Winter is coming the beds lie fallow
But winter seeds only need to be shallow
A few months to come and a beautiful scene
Of Cosmos in bloom under the African sun
Gods peace and tranquillity settles the scene
At the end of the day everything is clean
All in its place and I’m still His Queen
A bride with a veil so pure and white
He’s forgiven my sins and given me light
I’m blessed by His blood
Now let’s call it a night.

Isaiah 61:10
I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Im Alive

Im Alive

Every now and then you get that buzz of awareness
That makes you feel alive
That makes you know that there still could be
That special person out there.

That butterfly’s in the stomach feeling
That hot and cold iv'e connected feeling
That touch that gives you Goosebumps feeling

How else can you describe a physical attraction so strong?
It makes you tingle from head to toe.
It’s like the beginning of a new season
It’s an awakening
It says
I’m on top of the world!
I’m alive!

Ecclesiastes 9:7-10
7-10 Seize life! Eat bread with gusto,
Drink wine with a robust heart.
Oh yes—God takes pleasure in your pleasure!
Dress festively every morning.
Don’t skimp on colors and scarves.
Relish life with the spouse you love
Each and every day of your precarious life.
Each day is God’s gift. It’s all you get in exchange
For the hard work of staying alive.
Make the most of each one!
Whatever turns up, grab it and do it. And heartily!
This is your last and only chance at it,
For there’s neither work to do nor thoughts to think
In the company of the dead, where you’re most certainly headed.

Hearts Faded With Time

Hearts faded with time.

Skinny jeans and smokey air
The sound of laughter and pool balls on a table
The smell of damp carpet and stale beer
Full ashtrays and sweaty skin
Those were the dives I lived in

Youngsters eager for adventure
Dark alleys and hallways
High heals and red lipstick
Firemen and cops
My first love

Ice cold beer in a tall glass
Uncomfortable wooden bar stools against an uneven stone floor
Names of high school sweethearts inscribed on the counter top
Hearts faded with time
       One of them was mine….

Time To Heal

Time to Heal
Warmth floods through me as peace descends.
Finally weekend has arrived
A time to relax and heal after a brutal week.
Cabin fever sets in. but laziness wins over.
I’ll stay home and curl up with the TV and dogs.
Waiting for a message or phone call that’s never going to materialise.
Sadness hugs my heart and loneliness lies beside me.
I pour a glass of wine and watch the ice sparkle
A false light that gives a cold warmth.

I am at peace with myself and God
A protective layer forms in the place of my heart
I won’t allow it to break again.
I can give but I won’t receive.
I can hold but won’t feel
I’ve grieved my past
I’ve grieved love and youth

Its my time now for peace
Its my time for contentment
Its my time for Jesus
Time that’s His alone
Warmth floods through me as peace descends.
Finally weekend has arrived
A time to relax and heal, a time to reflect on the past
A time to build a new future.

Poem of Praise

Poem of Praise

Where Eagles dare and Angels fear to tread,
Gods breath breaths.
Where hurricanes blow and tornadoes swirl
Gods breath breaths.
Where volcanoes boil and the mighty lightning strikes
Gods breath breaths.

He parts the mighty seas
He makes deserts blossom and bloom
He gives us peace and quiet in the midst of the storm
He is our mighty God
Mountains melt like wax before him
The sun rises every day to great Him
The moon shines at night to glorify Him
We bow down on our knees before our living God
Jesus Christ our Lord Almighty

He calms the seas before Him
He quiets our mind and calms our hearts
He makes everything still
so we can listen to His voice.

Where Eagles dare and Angels fear to tread,
Gods breath breaths.
Where hurricanes blow and tornadoes swirl
Gods breath breaths.
Where volcanoes boil and the mighty lightning strikes
Gods breath breaths.

Psalm 145

A psalm of praise. Of David.

1
I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever.

2
Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.
