Kumkazi Mhlongo Poem
The heart will mend itself
It is your mind you ought to worry about
For it is your mind where you hoard the memories,
Were You've filed the record of the one who scarred you
That still cuts deep as a dagger
Your mind will ruthlessly torment you day and night
Bring you to tears, crush you over and over again
Unless you unprison your mind by letting go
Whereas the heart is it's own healer

Kumkazi Mhlongo Poem
Through hell and blows by the hammer of life
you bounced back
Nothing will undo you again
only make you stronger and more whole
Easy street poster child
Hype's the bluffers decoy by those who haven't lived
Blindfolded in their self-deception
They remain juvenile - raw and without form
Caterpillar entombed...... doomed never to crown butterfly
Spared the panel-beater's hammer, they lie idly parked
gathering dirt, rusting and decaying
The hammer's blows iron out our crudeness
and refine us into bright sparkling diamonds for the roles
we star in life, until we are immune to the hammer's slight knocks,
scrapes and scratches - bulletproof

Kumkazi Mhlongo Poem
Such is your 'No' phobia, you repeatedly bite off more than you can chew
Stuck as a broken record on yes, you agree to things you don't want to do
sign up for things you hate
Such is your 'No' phobia, you vote no to the life you want
and vote yes to the life you dread
foregoing your power to others..... bearing their crosses
Uncustomised for surrogacey....feathering their nests while yours
lies in tatters
Such is your 'No' phobia, you think it's a swear word
left you lawless and no boundaries - gained you nothing
but users, takers and abusers
A yesaholic in need of a 12 step program
'yes', yourself made titanic
sinking rapidly, but for a 911 sea rescue to change course

Kumkazi Mhlongo Poem
Licenced to Rule
you can break open the sky
The world is your runway and you are an Eagle in stilettoes
Strike a peacock pose, this is your parade
Click your heels and take flight
We are not trapped or locked up in these bones
No, no, we are uncaged and unroofed
Licenced to Rule
we can break open the sky
The world is your runway and you are the
showstopper - AKA - Naomi Campbell - an Eagle in stilettoes
You reigned supreme of the catwalk.....Broke open the sky

Kumkazi Mhlongo Poem
Divinely bequeathed a blank-cheque-Jackpot; in your
possession is the golden ticket
Sadly, many fail to decode it's often unglammed seed
Just as one person may look at a pile of stone and
merely see stone, another may look at it and
envision a majestic cathedral
Or one who tosses a priceless heirloom in the attic to gather cobwebs
Or mindlessly pawn it for a quick buck
Unmined to the grave - where lie companies unstarted
Masterpieces unpainted
Architecture unbuilt....in the cemetry there is buried
the greatest treasure mine, fruitless

Kumkazi Mhlongo Poem
Miniature beginnings are the scaffolding to mightiness
Just a pinch of yeast puffs up the dough
And little stars still light up big skies
No matter where you are "on the totem poll",
whether you are midway, quarter way or bottom last
don't pooh-pooh small beginnings
The little leagues is your boot camp to the Big leagues
One word doesn't make a novel, but one word begins it
And from that lone scribble, everything else flows
A single rose stem doesn't make a bouquet, but from a seed
can bloom a rose garden

Kumkazi Mhlongo Poem
If music is a country then Jazz is the capital
Rock is it's wildchild
Folk the genesis
Soul it's nutrition
And the classical is a temple

Kumkazi Mhlongo Poem
The promise land doesn't come turnkey and move in ready
It's a self-assemble
New build: customize your own heaven or hell
Remodel: Pimp a dinosaur
Facelift a grand Dame
Restore a Hiroshima
An eyesore into a Picasso
For you can upcycle the pieces of your broken yesterdays
into vintage tomorrows
Your bitter blues into your giddiest bliss yet

Kumkazi Mhlongo Poem
No Cross no Crown
You are your own promise land
Your own new frontier
Your own Moses of your red sea
You are your own Everest to summit
Your own Kingdom in making
T's and C's apply: if you can't carry your
Cross, you are unworthy of a Crown
No Cross no Crown
