God's Library

White walls and broken shelves.
These are not ours
But many forgotten tales.
Captured by the enormity,
I stand and fall.
Have I the right to wonder?
To indulge in this knowledge
Beyond mankind,
My dunce to your master mind?

Naked books
Yet seem old
Harsh to touch
Though resistant to the cold.
One appeared out of place;
A blood stained cover
Displaying a beastly face.

There was a ladder;
Gold and encrusted with gems,
It led up to the skies.
Earth was limitless
No bounds, no lies.

Then the serpent came,
Tempted the weaker hearted,
Lied and so was cursed lame,
So would he and I.
The ladder then broke
And fell from the sky.

Now I must pay my great fee,
For not returning a book,
That has been borrowed
From our God’s Library.
