Why I Believe In Evolution

You, skinny dipping,
is making each fish desire
to become a man.

Diet of Kisses

all of the sugar
none of the carbohydrate
when she kisses me

all of the creamy
none of the cholesterol
when she kisses me

all of the tasty
nothing ends up ‘round my waist
except for her arms

Jan 5th, 2001

I never felt sure
I knew it was possible
even probable

but how could I know
that she would come in winter
through the open doors

how was I to know
on the very first Friday
of the first new year

of a new decade
century, millennium
that love had arrived

Best Dressed

I bought her a blouse
white silk, long sleeves, full enough
to wear her heart on.

I bought her some slacks
twenty-eight inch waist snug ‘round
those hips she shoots from.

And boots for the feet
she thinks on, has the world at,
and I swept her off.

All Still Dance

we dance the old dance
as old as time itself yet
ever fresh each day

who knows its real name
how long it’s been around or
cares who danced it first

lift turn sway lunge bend
at the shore on ballroom floors
in the desert sands

the heart of the world
beats to the rhythm of love
all still dance to it

I Will

and in this lifetime
though we were born far apart
we found each other

in a future life
we might be separated
by greater distance

my questions are these
how will you recognize me
how will you find me

how long will you search
what will lead you back to me
will you have the will

Four the Love of God

four things that happened
that day that we fell in love:
the four doors opened

forty days at sea
ended and sailors saw land
four hundred children

cracked four thousand smiles
for forty thousand pilgrims
trekked four million miles

for a chance to be
near the God that made that day
that we fell in love

And the Other Way Around

...beautiful because
I love her and the other
way around. She is...
