Where's My Flying Car

There was so much potential when I was a kid
The future looked brighter than it ever did
We'd put a man on the moon and the sky was no limit
Was a brave new world if only for a minute

Was supposed to be some giant leap
For mankind and technology
And very soon we'd all take shuttles to the moon
And just like the Jetsons have a robot or two

It's a new millennium
It's way past 2001
Where's the future I was promised where's my trip to Mars
Where's world peace, where's my flyin' car

Life got harder, I got taller
Bombs got smarter, phones got smaller
Virtual reality
Just ain't real enough for me

It's a new millennium
It's way past 2001
Where's the future I was promised where's my trip to Mars
Where's world peace, where's my flying car

Now the only Star Treking's on my TV set
The only place I visit is the internet
Ones and zeroes filling up the air
We think we're really going places when we're going nowhere

It's a new millennium
It's way past 2001
Where's the future I was promised where's my trip to Mars
Where's world peace, where's my flying car

Do Me Right

Another work day, I fight the freeway
Another brick in the wall
Big blue world goes round and round, round
Traffic in a funnel, heading through the tunnel
Someone cuts and flips me off
I won't let stupid get me down, down

You can look to the sky for a little sunshine
Stare until you done gone blind
You could spend your life and not realize
What you have right in front of your eyes
Thank God your alive, alright
Pay it forward in kind
I don't wanna fight, but I might
Trying to get by
Just do me right, do me right

There's no clear view, from a rearview
Objects may appear
A lot closer than you think, than you think
Don't look behind, time out of mind
Days disappear
It's all over in a blink, in a blink

You can look to the sky for a little sunshine
Stare until you done gone blind
You could spend your life and not realize
What you have right in front of your eyes
Thank God your alive, alright
Pay it forward in kind
I don't wanna fight, but I might
Trying to get by
Just do me right, do me right

It takes some mad skills, paying my bills
Working 'til the Kingdom Come
Hold to the good things that you find, that you find
Be a good neighbor, that's good labor
Life Lesson 101
Happy is a state of mind, state of mind

You can look to the sky for a little sunshine
Stare until you done gone blind
You could spend your life and not realize
What you have right in front of your eyes
Thank God your alive, alright
Pay it forward in kind
I don't wanna fight, but I might
Trying to get by
Just do me right, do me right

Lower Alabama

A little south of Heaven
On the Gulf of Mexico
Here in the Heart of Dixie
The living's easy and slow

The weather's mostly nice here
Round Mobile Bay
Sunshine when it ain't raining
It's beautiful today here in L.A.

Living in L.A.
Lower Alabama
Spanish moss, azaleas
A deep south panorama, Lower Alabama
So far south, can't get no farther
Off the map, feet hitting water

A little taste of the bayou
A little twang in our talk
Folks are friendly when they greet you
We say sir and maam and y'all

We love sweet tea, our chicken fried
Shrimp and grits, and pecan pie
And watermelon in season
Man, I love the smell of bacon
Smells like Sunday morning
Like America, tastes like freedom

Living in L.A.
Lower Alabama
Spanish moss, azaleas
A deep south panorama, Lower Alabama
So far south, can't get no farther
Off the map, feet hitting water

Now, some might say we've got it all
Hidden treasures to be found
Bellingrath and Mardi Gras
(The first one, mind you) and the USS Alabama

The stuff of dreams, music scenes
Golden beaches, island streams
Fresh seafood to die for
Piggly Wigglys, there's a few
Foosackly's, can't fake the Foo
A sea of Shunarrah billboards, oh Lord

Living in L.A.
Lower Alabama
Spanish moss, azaleas
A deep south panorama, Lower Alabama
So far south, can't get no farther
Off the map, feet hitting water
Alabam, here where I oughtta be

I Must Be Dreaming

Venus de Milo gave up the banjo
She left the band with the Invisible Man
Never had a leg to stand on, stand on
Saw Galileo hanging with J-Lo
Singing "Life On Mars" out under the stars
Lead guitar was Marlon Brando

Hey, there's you and me
Happy as clams, a little house by the sea
How can that be, I must be dreaming
It just can't be, I must be dreaming
'Cause you're gone, a long time gone

Nikola Tesla on his electric Vespa
With Hedy Lamarr down Sunset Boulevard
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely, lonely
Poor Buddy Holly ain't got nobody
Pretty Peggy Sue found somebody new
Guess he lost his one and only

Hey, there's you and me
Baby makes three, a little house by the sea
How can that be, I must be dreaming
It just can't be, I must be dreaming
'Cause you're gone, a long time gone

An ominous sky like in the end of time
A murder of crows in a field of roses
Fallen angels far from Heaven, Heaven
Then came the rain and washed away the pain
And the sky turned blue, full of red balloons
As the lemon sun was setting

Hey, there's you and me
Growing old, a little house by the sea
How can that be, I must be dreaming
It just can't be, I must be dreaming
'Cause you're gone, a long time gone
How can that be, I must be dreaming
It just can't be, I must be dreaming
'Cause you're gone, a long time gone

Dreaming Jamaica

It's been one of those days
I need a holiday
Calgon take me away
To some tropical place
With palm trees swaying
To some reggae playing
I'm dreaming Jamaica
Thinking I'll make
A fast getaway
Jamaica's the place
Where they don't know my face
And no one knows my name

An island paradise
All the people so nice
Just like sugar and spice
There's a guy on a Harley
He looks like Bob Marley
Hey, so does that other guy

In Montego Bay
We'll be slipping away
To a hideaway
You won't believe
There's bar in a tree
A perfect getaway

It's been one of those days
I need a holiday
Calgon take me away
To some tropical place
With palm trees swaying
To some reggae playing
I'm dreaming Jamaica
Thinking I'll make a
Fast getaway
Jamaica's the place
Where they don't know my face
And no one knows my name

About a world away
I'm here hauling freight
Up Dakota way
There's no island stream
Just a blizzard scene
Across the interstate

It's minus eight
And it's getting late
Paradise must wait
There's a Super Eight
They say their Continental
Breakfast is great

It's been one of those days
I need a holiday
Calgon take me away
To some tropical place
With palm trees swaying
To some reggae playing
I'm dreaming Jamaica
Thinking I'll make a
Fast getaway
Jamaica's the place
Where they don't know my face
And no one knows my name

Mississippi Bound

Cottonmouth, dirty south
Mustard biscuits, shut my mouth
Down the Gulf of Mexico
Running down Casino Row
Through the miles of slot machines
Making music, chasing dreams
How far I'm going, I don't know
Ain't time to go I'm on a roll

Mississippi, Mississippi bound
Just a little place I call my home
I'm cornhood, wildwood, backwoods
Mississippi bound, y'all come on down

I can sing and play guitar
I sell myself from bar to bar
New songs, ancient rythyms
Pretty girls, go and get ?em
Young bucks, rap cats
Rednecks and white trash
Blackwater, summer breeze
Kiss the ground, I'm on my knees

Mississippi, Mississippi bound
Just a little place I call my home
I'm cornhood, wildwood, backwoods
Mississippi bound, y'all come on down

Yazoo Bayou
I tell you a thing or two
Tripping on a starfish
Someone boiling crawfish
Shrimp boats, break of day
Shining on Biloxi Bay
There is no concept of time
A Mississippi state of mind

Mississippi, Mississippi bound
Just a little place I call my home
I'm cornhood, wildwood, backwoods
Mississippi bound, y'all come on down
Mississippi bound, y'all come on down
Mississippi bound, y'all come on down
I'll see you around

Wish I Had a Time Machine

Wish I had a time machine
I'd go back, change everything
Try again to make you stay
I'd go back and found a way

But I'm stuck here in this one horse town
Ain't no time machines around
Gone is gone and that's a fact
And she ain't never coming back

Wish I had a laser beam
One that cut precise and clean
Maybe have brain surgery
Zap away her memories

But I'm stuck here in this one horse town
Ain't no laser beams around
Gone is gone and that's a fact
And she ain't never coming back

Wish I had a rocket ship
Hop aboard and take a trip
Far beyond the atmosphere
Leave my cares and worries here

But I'm stuck here in this one horse town
Ain't no rocket ships around
Gone is gone and that's a fact
And she ain't never coming back

Mulberry Road

A little piece of Heaven
Just like in my dreams
Just as I remembered
In shades of blue and green
Blue sky, honeysuckle summer
Green green grass of home
Hurley Mississippi
Down Mulberry Road
     Feelings flooding in
     Overtaking me
     Mulberry Road
     Walking a memory
Blackbirds on the feeders
Sparrows on the ground
Bluebirds in the treetops
Robins all around
Mama singing on the porch swing
Figuring up the bills
Daddy planting fruit trees
Out along the field
     The laughter of children
     Carries on the breeze
     Mulberry Road
     Walking a memory
I'm gonna take the grand tour
I've got nothing but time
Past cherries, blueberries, mulberries
Scuppernongs and muscadimes
The house is full of company
Playing dominoes
Mama's in the kitchen
Fixing something good you know
     All of these ghosts
     Sweetly haunting me
     Mulberry Road
     Walking a memory
Daddy picks the dobro
Gonna make it cry
Plays "You Are My Sunshine"
Make you wipe your eyes
Roger picking guitar
Me and Ronnie join right in
Linda and Theresa
Sing "I Ride and Old Paint"
Mama sings "Amazing Grace"
"Softly and Tenderly"
I'm overcome
Mulberry Road
Walking a memory

Merely Foolish

Look out my window, I'm always going somewhere
Denver Colorado, San Antone, got a lot of friends there
This old cowboy heart, she called me Lucky Seven
I've journeyed so far but it's a long long way from Earth to Heaven

It's all a rodeo, a dog and pony show
I play it cool you know, when I am clueless
On my high horse my friend, headlong into the wind
A fool I've never been, just merely foolish

Wasted years, crazy dreams when I was younger
Hollow cheers so it seems chasing down the thunder

It's all a rodeo, a dog and pony show
I play it cool you know, when I am clueless
On my high horse my friend, headlong into the wind
A fool I've never been, just merely foolish

Regret is a hurt that lingers now I'm older
Sorry is a word, I wish I would have told her

It's all a rodeo, a dog and pony show
I play it cool you know, when I am clueless
On my high horse my friend, headlong into the wind
A fool I've never been, just merely foolish

Just a big parade from cradle to the grave
Put on your smile and bravely wave hello
Life's a long hard ride and at the finish line
Love is the only prize rarer than gold

It's all a rodeo, a dog and pony show
I play it cool you know, when I am clueless
On my high horse my friend, headlong into the wind
A fool I've never been, just merely foolish

Love's Child

Love's child, reconcile
'Though your dreams are falling apart
Love's child, catch a smile
And hold it in your heart

Well, she came into the Southwest
With a broke heart and a torn dress
Never reaching her Hollywood dreams
From a dusty desert bus stop
To the Old Man at the truck stop
With a kindness that she'd never seen
And she worked as his waitress for minimum wage
Pretending each table was her center stage

Love's child, reconcile
'Though your dreams are falling apart
Love's child, catch a smile
And hold it in your heart

Well, he came down from the Badlands
With a broke heart and a bad hand
A young artist with no masterpiece
Serving coffee and cold pizza
There he saw his Mona Lisa
Inspiration in him was released
And he painted Ramona On The Whispering Sands
And on occasion with a sweet kiss
She would lend him a hand

Love's child, reconcile
'Though your dreams are falling apart
Love's child, catch a smile
And hold it in your heart

Well, she came into a new world
A sweet bouncing eyes of blue girl
And she grew with a song in her heart
The Old Man cooked and Mom served tables
Daddy helped when he was able
And every night she would play on her guitar
And she sang a sweet song 'bout the Whispering Sands
Until some big-shot on a pit-stop
Signed her up with his band

Love's child, reconcile
'Though your dreams are falling apart
Love's child, catch a smile
And hold it in your heart
Yes, hold it in your heart
Down in your heart
