Broken Water Faucet

Broken Water Faucet ©2017by Susie Krauter
A poem written for children to demonstrate personification My cold silvery shiny metal handle no longer moves to the top of the top or to the bottom of the bottom I can hear the sound of my constant dripping; the soft edges of each dreaded drip and then drop of each water droplet falling cascading, diving to the metal sink below reaching their end or is it the beginning of a long journey Each water droplet changing shape, plummeting, splattering against the cold metal sink below screaming out suddenly freeing itself from my almost tight grasp; I was trying so hard to hold on Yet, slipping away beneath me a waterslide of whimsy quickly catching the downward motion slurring; stirring; whirring, sucked beneath Down through the metal pipes into the joyous choir the happy party singing voices of like-minded look-alikes rushing river together beneath the city delightful, peaceful, happy Oh water droplet, take me with you Left behind; alas, I shall stay here broken Beneath the closed curtain the dark night blocking out my window to sun and moon; day and night, I cannot hold you back, I am forced to let you go; I cannot Go With You Curtain raising Sunshine Morning the voices of children the clanging of licked spoons against near empty cereal bowls reverberating against the steel sink below Bright round sparkling eyes of the child whose hand is reaching for me… I will fill your glass child; I will fill your glass.
