The Obstacle

I was brought her under the false impression that this was one big adventure
I listened to my intuition (hopelessly wrong)
I was confident and excited and young
but time can change people
Now I feel older than the trees in Century Park
trapped in a concrete jungle
despairing, hopeless, but alive;
my confidence withered like the cacti on my balcony
hot, stuffy days learning nothing at a desk and
endless nights praying for a miracle to happen
Of course meeting you made this worse
but it was fun while it lasted
childish illusions all fade away eventually anyway
and even if I am taller than the buildings next to the flat I live in
taller, even, than the Pearl Tower
I will always be living in the shadow of someone else taller
I really shouldn't expect much from this life
but at least I can stick up two long fingers at her in the dark
but at least I can still exist
even as an obstacle

Are You There

Hello?
Can I call you?
Not that I have had any experience with calling boys.
I have no experience because I don't know.
I don't know because I've never tried.
I've never tried because I have no experience.
Sorry, I guess.
What was that?
You don't know what to say?
Don't worry, I'm used to it.
Always used to things that take me completely by surprise.
Yes, I know I'm stupid.
Yes, you just told me I was.
Silently.
You don't know me at all, but I know you.
No, I'm not a stalker.
I'm running out of patience now.
Look, you know how to screw people's lives up. And all I know how to lose myself in a crowd, so that I'd never need to find myself ever again.
No, that isn't my point.
No, I'm not good at roasting people.
Listen to me!
You dragged me out of that crowd, okay?
It was you who decided to screw me up and make me hopelessly awkward..
Not me.
